What might the mystics of the past centuries tell you today if they could talk with you about your dreams and struggles? They would tell you about your twin natures: that you have a spiritual nature as well as a human nature. And that you are accompanied through life by a Divine Companion, a devoted friend so close that this friend seems to dwell within you. They describe their Divine Companion as tender and full of life; kind and wise; as extending an open invitation to which you can respond whenever you are ready. And they would tell you that collaborating with your Divine Companion is worth more than any solely human accomplishment.
This program will explore how the mystics’ experiences of divine companionship fit with modern psychology. The experiences of Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, and Julian of Norwich will be woven together with psychologists like Richard Schwartz (Internal Family Systems). This program uses didactic teachings, metaphors, images, poetry, music and experiential activities to apply these insights to enhance your spiritual and psychological growth.
