An Evening On The Spirituality of the Twelve Step Program with Rev. Dan McGlynn

This evening's presentation and discussion will be an abbreviated version of the May 23rd Day of Reflection

The Spirituality of the Twelve Step program is a spiritual journey calling us to progress not perfection.

The underlying cause of any addiction is "the spiritual malady" which is described in the Big Book as selfishness, self centeredness, self will run riot.

This " spiritual malady" can only be overcome, rooted out only through a "Spiritual Awakening" which is the result of having worked the twelve steps.

The twelfth step describes this "Spiritual Awakening" as, "When a man or woman has a spiritual awakening, the most important meaning of it is that he or she has now become able to do, feel, and believe that which he or she could not do before on his or her unaided strength and resources alone."..."He or she has been granted a gift which amounts to a new state of consciousness and being."

This spiritual journey is a movement from self-centeredness to God-centeredness to other-centeredness.
