The practice of Centering Prayer allows us to open to the presence and action of God not only during the prayer period, but also during the activities of everyday life. It offers an approachable way of deepening intimacy with God and increasing one's capacity to live a fully Christian life. One long-term practitioner wishes that this practice had been available when she was a young person, so that her relationship with God could have deepened much earlier.
Bev Roberts will share the principles of Centering Prayer as developed by Thomas Keating. Fr. Keating is one of the principal architects and teachers of the Christian contemplative prayer movement and, in many ways, Contemplative Outreach is a manifestation of his longtime desire to contribute to the recovery of the contemplative dimension of Christianity.
Bev Roberts has practiced Centering Prayer for nearly 23 years. For the past 6 years, she has been the Delaware Contact Person for Contemplative Outreach, as well as helping facilitate a Centering Prayer group. She's in the process of becoming a commissioned Centering Prayer presenter and is in training to become a Contemplative Spiritual Director. Bev has an S.B. degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.S.E. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, both in Metallurgy and Materials Science. She currently lives in Hockessin, DE.
